In 1936, the City of Weslaco opened a “recreation park and RV campsite” on the land that is now Gibson Park. Since 1984, the original meeting and recreation hall has housed the educational facilities and offices of the Valley Nature Center.
The Valley Nature Center and our partners are working to replace the 70-year old building to give students and families better environmental education opportunities. A place to bond with nature, first hand, and dirty elbowed!

Our Goal - A New Beginning
Our goal is to provide a quality learning site in which visitors young and old can discover hands on our unique natural environment of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Current Facility
Our current facility is over 70 years old and has served the VNC well, but is now slowly crumbling. It can no longer safely host our programs and exhibits.
The New Facility
The planned facility will be a beautiful state-of-the-arts green LEED certified building. It will host interactive exhibits, classrooms, meeting facilities, and all the other needed amenities.
