The fourth annual "Dragonfly Festival" held by the Valley Nature Center For images of South Texas Odonates (Dragonflies and Damselflies) click here. |
|
The VNC’s mission is to increase knowledge and understanding of the South Texas flora and fauna. This annual event focuses on critters that may not (yet!) have the universal appeal of our sub-tropical and migrant birds and butterflies. Dragonflies and Damselflies eat mosquitoes and are every bit as colorful, interesting and vital to a healthy environment than their better known cousins. With field guides now widely available, identification of these fascinating insects has become easier for all who are interested. Learn to tell a skimmer from a glider. Discover the world of naiads in our bog pond! Roam the Valley’s wetlands with expert guides! Dragonfly Days is designed to appeal to the whole family!.

Our three-day event offers a mixture
of seminars and field trips designed to increase the participants’
understanding of odonates (Dragonflies and Damselflies) in particular
and insects in general.
After an introductory ID workshop, field trips will let you put your new-found skills to use. Seminars are designed to offer more detailed information on a range of subjects related to invertebrates and their place in our environment. |
