Professional Development Credit Hours include:

We are working hard to attract more teachers into our program and have been accredited through the Texas State Board on Educator Certification to become a "Provider of Continuing Professional Education Credit Hours." Our adult programs listed below are certified for you to obtain hours from.

Saturdays in the Park:
Every first, second and third Saturday of the month year-round, the Valley Nature Center offers short presentations followed by guided nature walks on beginning butterfly watching, native plant identification and beginner’s bird watching.

Speaker Series:
For twelve weeks beginning in January, the Valley Nature Center presents different speakers on different nature topics in both Weslaco and McAllen.

Field Trips:
A variety of different field trips are offered that take participants to interesting and environmentally valuable areas of the Lower Rio Grande Valley and Mexico.

Dragonfly Days:
Each year in the spring, the Valley Nature Center hosts its Dragonfly Days weekend. Speakers are invited to educate the public on the natural history of the dragonfly and field trips to observe these creatures are available as well.

Special Programs:
Year-round special programs may be available as opportunities for professional development hours and the Valley Nature Center website should be consulted.
 

Teacher In- Services Include:

An all day in-service at the Valley Nature Center facility in Weslaco. 9 am to 3 pm.

Both indoors and outdoors activists scheduled to be fun and educational.

Topics include native plants, birds of the Valley, on-hands science projects for the classroom, school field trips to the VNC, and many other topics!!

Nature walks in the native habitat park. Guided by naturalist who will show you what Valley nature is all about.

It all ties into earth and life sciences and our programs are aligned to the TAKS and local school districts curriculums.
