Field Trips

A wonderful line–up of field trips and leaders will get you up close with the odonates of South Texas!  See the Schedule Page for exact dates and times.

All three trip destinations will be available each day.  Please indicate which trip you wish to go on for each day on your registration form.

Each trip takes you to one of three areas in the Valley.  Field trip leaders will evaluate each site in these areas and decide which the best sites are for the day. 

Upper Valley Trip  (Sat, Sun)      

This trip takes you to the McAllen, Mission, Edinburg area.  Possible stops include Bentsen State Park, Anzalduas County Park, McAllen Nature Center, Edinburg Wetlands. 

Mid Valley Trip  (Sat, Sun)

This trip takes you to the Weslaco and Mercedes area.  Possible stops include Valley Nature Center, Frontera Audubon, Golden Citrus, Estero Llano Grande State Park, and Rio Rico on the river.

Lower Valley Trip  (Sat, Sun)

This trip takes you to the Brownsville area.  Possible stops include Sabal Palms, TXPW Fish Hatchery, Old Resacas, and Brownsville Impoundment #2. 

Beginner's Odonata Workshop Trip-Weslaco Locations (Sat)

Vans will leave from the Host Hotel each morning at scheduled times.  We ask that all participants use the vans and do not follow in their own vehicles due to insurance, safety and courtesy reason..
