Dr. John Abbott, UT |
John
Abbott is an Entomologist in the Section of Integrative Biology of at the
University of Texas, Austin and a Research Associate of the Texas Natural
History Collections (Texas Memorial Museum).
He specializes in the aquatic groups with a heavy emphasis on the
dragonflies and damselflies. John
earned a B.S. in Zoology/Entomology from Texas A&M University and a M.S.
and Ph.D. in Biology (with emphasis on ecology) from the University of North
Texas. John teaches General
Entomology and Aquatic Entomology at UT.
He has also taught field Ornithology and led natural history groups to
Costa Rica, Honduras, Galapagos, Hawaii and Mexico.
John has authored many papers on aquatic insects with several
specifically on the dragonflies and damselflies of the south-central U.S. and
has written a book on the Dragonflies and Damselflies of the South Central
United States which will be published in the fall of 2004.
John is an avid nature photographer and his photographs have appeared
in numerous calendars, magazines and books.
John
also maintains Odonata
Central, a web site devoted to the dragonflies and damselflies of Texas
and surrounding states which contains an on-line field guide.
